One diary.
Three of its thirty looks.

The same diary in three of the looks we ship, captured from the live page — not drawn. A look is the whole page. Change it any time; nothing anyone wrote moves.

A real diary on DiaryOftheDead wearing the Art Deco theme (Deco design): the memorial band, the name, the counters and the tabs.

From the first phone call,
to long after the burial.

The diary is one part of it. This is the whole way through: what to do in the first hours, who to call, the memorial itself, the day of the service, and everything that keeps going after it.

  1. From the home to the mortuary: what to do first, and who cares for them.

    The first hours

The diary opens with the first hours: bringing your loved one from the home to a mortuary, where they are cared for and preserved — and a guide for the calls and the decisions that cannot wait.

    Guided stepsMortuary care
The first-hours guide on a diary, showing the steps from the home to the mortuary
  2. A curated list, real prices, and no middlemen.

    Ready to serve

A curated list of funeral providers with their real prices — a phone call away, and no middlemen. If the quality is not what you expected, we will help resolve it.

  3. A memorial that stays online for ever, and costs nothing.

    Free, for ever

Creating the diary turns a burial into a memorial: a page that stays online for ever, free. Premium themes and effects make it truly theirs.

A memorial diary page: the portrait, the dates, the counters for condolences, flowers and followers, and the tabs along the bottom
  4. A QR code at the door, and a livestream for those who cannot come.

    At the entrance

On the day, print your QR code for the entrance: guests scan and leave condolences instantly, and treasured photographs become digital. For those who cannot come, live stream the service. No more meeting apps doubling as a funeral tool. No download, no account, no waiting room — a guest opens one link and is at the service.

  1. Condolences become conversation, and the diary keeps going.

    It keeps going

The diary keeps going after the burial: memories keep arriving, and you can reply and react. Birthdays and anniversaries are never forgotten.

    Replies & reactionsGentle reminders
A condolence on a diary with six replies underneath it, and 147 reactions on one of them
  2. Every word they sign is kept, in their own name.

    Signed by 214 people

The condolence book is the one thing families always lose — a wet page, a card in a drawer nobody opens. Here it cannot be lost: guests sign from any phone, no app, no account.

    Guest signaturesKept for ever
  3. A condolence you can hear, not only read.

0:42 · recorded at the service

Not everyone can put grief into a sentence. A friend can speak instead — recorded in the browser with nothing to install, and kept for a grandchild to hear long after.

  4. Echo drafts the biography, the obituary and the tribute.

    A first draft, in seconds

A blank page is the hardest part. Describe your loved one in a sentence and Echo drafts the biography and the obituary — always yours to edit, never published without you.

Get in touch

Questions, partnerships, or just want to say hello? We'd love to hear from you.

The things families ask first.

Is creating a memorial diary really free?

Yes — free to create and free for ever. Every diary on DiaryOftheDead includes unlimited stories, photos, video and audio, tributes and condolences, the condolence register, followers and live ceremony streaming. There is no trial, no subscription and no expiry. You pay only for the extras you choose, and only if you want them: themes, particle fields and virtual gifts are bought with coins, and a new account starts with 50 welcome coins.

Do I need an account to look around?

No. Thousands of memorial diaries on DiaryOftheDead are public, and you can read them, watch a ceremony and light a candle without signing in. You need an account to create a diary of your own, post a tribute or send a gift.

Can a guest at the funeral leave a condolence without downloading anything?

Yes. Print the QR card from the diary on DiaryOftheDead and put it at the door or on the table, and a guest scans it with the camera they already have — no app, no account. Their condolence is on the diary straight away, and they can attach a photo or record a voice note instead of writing.

Can family who cannot travel still be at the funeral?

Yes. A ceremony can be streamed live on a DiaryOftheDead diary: schedule it once, and everyone following receives the notification. It can be open to all or kept behind a family code, with live chat and one shared candle beside the stream. Recordings of a ceremony are being built now.

How long has DiaryOftheDead existed?

The company is est. 2024, and DiaryOftheDead has been on the web, iOS and Android since then. The idea is older: it started in 2010, in a university notebook, fourteen years before the company existed — long before there was a team, any money or a name for it.

What is the DiaryOftheDead Signature?

It is the rung above the catalogue themes: a look designed for one memorial, using their own handwriting, up to three films, up to six spotlights and a Curator's Note written by a person. A DiaryOftheDead Signature is assembled by hand and quoted per memorial, so the way to start is to contact us.

Which devices can I use?

Web, iOS and Android. A diary created on DiaryOftheDead on a phone opens on the web and the other way round, and everything a family adds is shared across all three.
